7 Best Murals of the Month: September 2017

Each month, Street Art Today selects the seven most stunning murals of the past month. In this sixth edition: the Finnish mural project Upeart, a hip hop tribute by OSGEMEOS, a mysterious beauty by DANK and more! The list is in a random order.

#1 LONAC – First on the list: the talented Croatian Lonac. Named ‘Waiting for the Sky to Dry’, this huge photo-realistic painting is a portrait of his friend and fellow artist CHEZ 186. Made for street art festival No Limited Borås in Borås, Sweden. Shoutout to the photographer Brian MacElvaine, who waited for the sky to be right.

#2 DANK – This time not a rainy cityscape, but a mysterious Asian beauty. The London based artist made ‘The Dream’ in just 11 hours, all freehand, all by eye. Belfast, Northern Ireland is the place of this geisha, described by Dan Kitchener aka DANK as:

A sense of stillness, beauty, calm and dreaming, the geisha emerging from the darkness with one solitary spotlight. Waiting to unfurl, like a butterfly as the light warms her, she smiles and holds the folds of her glistering kimono closer to her.

#3 DULK – The Spanish painter Dulk is back on our list with a great mural in Eespo, Finland. In September, he was present at the Finnish mural project Upeart. Dulk named this killer piece ‘Northern Delights’. Photo by the artist.

#4 GUIDO VAN HELTEN – This Australian artist works BIG and beautiful. Guido van Helten mostly paints locals, making them appear in an impressive way in their own city or country. Made for Upeart in Hämeenlinnassa, Finland.

#5 TELMO MIEL – This duo from the Netherlands made in a short period multiple masterpieces all over the world. Last month, Telmo Miel painted a massive mural for No Limited Borås in Borås, Sweden. This badass painting is named ‘The Adventures Of Nils Holgersson’. It is based on the story of the same name: a Swedish work of fiction Telmo Miel grew up with. Photographer unknown.

#6 OSGEMEOS – From Brazil to New York – ‘Rock on to the break of dawn’ is a marvelous two-part hip hop tribute made by the identical twin brothers OSGEMEOS. Photos by Martha Cooper.

These walls are dedicated to hip hop, all the elements, b-boys and b-girls, graffiti, DJs, and rap, and for the old school and new school generations. This is our love to the people of New York City.

#7 FINTAN MAGEE – It is not the first time Fintan Magee appears in our monthly list. The Australian master keeps making breathtaking murals, this time for the Finnish mural project Upeart. The eight storey painting is named ‘Balancing Act’ and can be found in Helsinki, Finland.
